January 28 2017

My hopes for this blog is to offer a respite from the major upheavals that are causing widespread anger and fear across the land and around the world. I will on alternate posts offer a guided meditation from several respected teachers along with images that may be useful to take you, the viewer, into a more peaceful place.

Here are two links by people I trust -

A guided meditation by Tara Brach,

A song from Isaiah, "Fear Not" by Katie Feeney. (Wait 10 seconds for it to start.)

A few images of mine -

The sun is always rising somewhere in the world. Our work is to let it rise in our hearts whenever we are overwhelmed by darkness.

May we find the peace and serenity to continue each day, and to share with it with those we meet along the Way,

This post is about images of Winter as I have been graced to see the Season from the small part of the world I reside in. To be engaged in a place, Maine, where the shift in beauty takes place four times a year has been Present Moment time, a chance to see Nature without the impediments of tall buildings and crowded streets which was my life for so many years in New York City.

I had many good years in New York and now I am finding myself past the decade mark in the State which has more trees per square mile than any other. I cannot express enough gratitude to our Creator for the wonders I have seen here. From being present to the pristine shoreline of Acadia and Schoodic Point, vistas of how the land once looked from mountain tops, the quiet places that feed the heart's longing for connection to the Spirit in woods everywhere, to the beauty as seen by artists and sculptors at the Colby College Museum of Art. Mostly though, to know the friendship of many who share their sense of awe at our natural surroundings. The "Now," God's presence in every rock, stream, lake and shrub has been, and still is, a joy to see and somehow know for their reality in the deeper recesses of my interior self.

I haven't posted for awhile as there has been a shift in vision and approach to my photography which in some images has been to take a more artistic view, a more painterly technique has surfaced. Below are photographs of beautiful scenes followed by a more creative interpretation of what the camera has recorded. I am learning new techniques that I will use to foster this new found sense of vision, a new start in seeing my surroundings in a way that shows me that there is never an end to creating something of what I see in life.

                                                       ----------------------------------

How is Winter born each year,
is there a factory somewhere bellowing clouds and cold?
I suspect that the earth releases from its depths
the leftovers from last Winter and simply adds
enough weather to cause us to gripe or to be in awe.
Mother Earth has Her ways I suppose,
and I do enjoy Her moods on any given day.

--------------------------

The morning mists, the clouds,
the gathering waters,
I become a part of it.
The wilderness, the dew drops,
the pollen ...
I become a part of it.

Photo - Lee F. White         Winter becomes a time to sit and discuss
new ways to explore creative processes -
Over tea the dialog is slow and meaningful in content,
"No, you silly man, crayons are the way to go.
Use felt tip pens, or short pencils ......"

So, I got to work.

Longing for Summer.

Within every bud on the end of any branch
a complete leaf sits in miniature, hiding, waiting .....
Look on a cold January day and see what is promised
by the Creator of the Seasons.
